Willeo Baptist Softball Complete First Season
August 12, 2010
Well, we have completed our first season of softball for the Willeo Warriors with a 1-9 record. To say the least, we didn’t go on the War Path too often, but we learned a lot about the Roswell softball league and we have made numerous contacts to build on for next year’s team. We also have a few prospects for cultivation for church membership.
I want to thank Dennis Blackstone for the work he did getting us connected with many of these young men and for keeping them all coming out each week as we played through some hot weather and some tough games. I will have to say how glad we all were to win that one game, and we won it decisively, 15-6. Thank you Dennis!!
I also want to send a LOUD “THANK YOU” to all the guys who played on our team at least once during the season: Foo Dorsett, Chris Wilkinson, Trey Johnson, Alex Fotie, Ben Hirschland, Brian McCullagh, Jason Couch, Steven Hicks, Josh Quarles, Spencer Collins, Sean Corey, Daniel Brunner, Michael Cullen, Chris “Who Dat” Reis, Zach Mays, Scott Langel, Ryan Beasley, Albert Turner, and Stewart Tobias. These are some really great guys!! Also, we want to thank Kim McMillan for providing food, drinks and refreshments throughout the season from her Subway store. Matt McMillan also pitched-in as a bat boy from time-to-time. It was a truly great effort by everyone who participated. Oh! How could I not thank our faithful fans who came out each week to support us? We will do better next year, so keep coming and cheering your team on!!
Vacation Bible School was Great!!
Two weekends ago we had approximately 30 people gathered at our church for a weekend VBS where a dozen children and their parents came together to study God’s Word, recreate, do crafts, and share refreshments. Thank you to Patti Young and Karla Jordan for the excellent leadership you provided this year’s VBS! Also, a loud “thank you” goes out to Gene and Glenda Young for doing the crafts with the children and another even louder “thank you” goes to Kim McMillan for providing the refreshments and Saturday's meal. Great job lady!! We could not have even had a VBS if not for the teachers: James and Stephanie Browning, Vickie Ray, Jacob Browning, Brenda and William Jordan and Jeff Young. I hope I haven’t missed or forgotten anyone. Please remember that I am getting older and have these memory lapses from time-to-time. Thank you to everyone who helped make this year’s VBS a real success. We have prospects for our church from this effort too.
My travels to former churches and weddings will come to a close this Sunday, and I will return to the Willeo pulpit on Sunday, August 22, 2010. Jody and I look forward to seeing each of you then. Keep praying for Willeo Baptist as we surge forward to our final 175th Anniversary Event.

We Are Moving Forward!
July 24, 2010
I am so excited about the accomplishments we are making at Willeo Baptist Church this summer. While we are still looking for our first win for our softball team, the guys have not given up on the effort. I think we need to get to the point where we can believe we can win.
We are also participating in the “Alive After 5” Roswell get acquainted events each third Thursday of the month, and we had a good experience of providing food for The Drake House ministry this Monday evening. We are also looking forward to having some of the children and adults from The Drake House to participate in our Vacation Bible School on July 30, 31, and August 1. One last front where we are making significant progress is our 175th Anniversary Celebration event on September 18-19, 2010. Thank you Jeff Young and committee for this excellent work.
Let me take the remainder of this space to share with the church the very kind note of appreciation we received from Christy Merritt at The Drake House for our providing dinner for the mothers this week.
Dear Willeo Baptist Friends,
Many, many thanks to all of you for your help with our life skills workshop dinner on Monday of this week. The meal was wonderful! Everyone enjoyed the dinner very much, and the dessert was really a hit! Feeding 12-15 families and volunteers every week before our classes is quite a challenge for us. Having your assistance with the meal was a hugh relief for me and greatly appreciated by the moms and children who partook of your great home cooking!
The Drake House is a gift to the Roswell community to meet the needs of those less fortunate. Through our program of services, the families gain valuable knowledge and life-skills to use as they move forward and find stability for their families. The workshops are an important part of this process and we truly appreciate your willingness to help us in the planning and preparations for this night. It is by working together that we can make a difference in the lives of the families that find solace and empowerment at The Drake House. Thank you for your support.
Sincerely,
Christy Merritt
Our Father in Heaven
June 14, 2010
One of the most radical and relationally transformative statements Jesus made is found in the Lord’s model prayer found in Matthew 6 in which He calls God, “Our Father.” In the Jewish community of Jesus’ day, the name of God was so sacred the Rabbi would not pronounce the name audibly for fear of breaking the third commandment which prohibits profaning God’s name. In time the average person also grew so careful with their relationship with God that He was so holy and scared, people would not approach Him at all. How radical was it for Jesus to call God, “Our Father.” Jesus even went so far as to call God, “Abba” which can be translated “Daddy.”
Jesus and God the Father want to have a deeply personal and intimate relationship with each of us. So personal and so intimate that we are close enough to call Him, Father or Daddy. My best memories from having a son is when I would hear him call me “Daddy” and then bring me a question or a need I could help him with. What a gift from one’s child!
On this Father’s Day weekend, I hope you will share with your father words of appreciation for all he has done for you in your lives together. As I have shared in my sermons regarding my Dad, he could be, at times, quite hard on his three sons, but in time I have come to appreciate him for what he gave me that was good in my life, and to forgive the times when he was too hard on my life. I hope my own son will do the same for me where these dynamics may be present in our relationship. God, our Father, will be there to assist us when these needs arise in our lives.
We enjoyed a truly great revival last week! I am so pleased with how our church is moving forward. Make sure you continue to participate in every opportunity afforded to you. God is good and He is showering His goodness on Willeo Baptist Church at this time. Share this good news!
